How do you arrive or work towards being content in your NOW? Gratitude is one prescription to begin with. So, let me share a moment of pure joy and gratitude from my life. Hans and I went to see Def Leppard over Labor Day, and we had the absolute best time! We even met with clients before and had an incredible time at the concert.
Now, here's where the fun begins. Hans had never seen Def Leppard live, even though it's one of his favorite bands. I, on the other hand, had seen them when I was 13 or 14. For the last 12 years, every time a Def Leppard song came on the radio, I would playfully pretend not to know who they were. I'd say things like, "I'm not sure who this is" or "I really like this song - who sings it?" My favorite was, "Have you ever seen them in concert?" Hans, being the smartass he is, would always laugh and give me some kind of witty comeback. It's how we banter, and it's part of what keeps our relationship fun and vibrant.
Little did he know, I had been secretly watching their concerts for years, waiting for the perfect moment to surprise him with tickets. In June, I finally did it! I gave him the tickets as an early birthday gift. The look on his face was priceless.
Hans was so touched that he wrote this on his FB page: "So my beautiful wife surprised me with this...She's always teasing me that she got to see Def Leppard in concert. Now I can brag about it also!!!! This is incredible and I can't wait."
This experience reminded me of the importance of creating joy, not just for ourselves but for those we love. It's about being present in the moment, cherishing the connections we have, and sometimes, keeping a fun secret that leads to an unforgettable surprise.
Remember, life isn't just about the big moments; it's about creating and appreciating the small ones too. Whether it's a shared laugh over an inside joke or a long-awaited concert, these are the moments that make life rich and fulfilling.
So, I encourage you to find your own ways to create joy, to be present, and to cultivate gratitude. What's your equivalent of a surprise Def Leppard concert? How can you bring more lightness and fun into your relationships? Remember, a little playfulness goes a long way in making life's journey more enjoyable.
